The formation of projectile autoionizing 2l2l ' states has been investigate
d for 0.5-1.75 MeV/u (v = 4.5-8.4 a.u) F8+ projectiles colliding with neon.
Double transfer to 2l2l ' configurations is found to occur with much highe
r probability than transfer excitation. Most of the double capture events a
re attributed to the transfer of two K-shell electrons, or a K-shell electr
on plus an L-shell electron, A large contribution from the 1s(2s2p(3)P) P-4
state is observed. Apparent anomalies in the observed relative intensities
of the 1s(2s2p(3)P) P-2 and the 1s(2s2p(1)p) P-2(+) states are ascribed to
quantum mechanical interference effects.
