Abstract
The formalism developed in a previous paper is used to predict the line sha pe of the 1S-2S transition in cold, magnetically trapped hydrogen. The pres ence of the inhomogeneous trapping magnetic field introduces shifts and bro adenings to the spectral line. The understanding of the line shape is impor tant for ultrahigh-precision measurements in trapped hydrogen, particularly for the proposed test of CPT violation through the comparison of hydrogen with antihydrogen.
