G. Sivery, The activity of a rural court in the Middle Ages: the echevin court chapter of Saint-Gery of Cambrai in Neuville-Saint-Remy from 1277 to 1286, REV NORD, 83(339), 2001, pp. 9-24
The first acts recovered from the Neuville-Saint-Remy "court of echevin" se
em to offer an outstanding interest and deserve to be studied with care. Th
ey document the move outside the Cambrai city limits of the activity of the
free jurisdiction of a rural court leaving the buildings of Saint-Gery's c
hapter situated in the city. This delocalization corresponds to a later aut
onomy than that of the various Cambrai courts and betokens structural alter
ations that one has to try and define, explain and understand.
