Broadband satellite access for interactive multimedia services

In this paper, we investigated the feasibility of providing two-way broadba nd access for residential interactive multimedia services such as video-on- demand, news on demand, home shopping or webcasting over multibeam satellit e systems. We propose new air-interface protocols and terminal structures f or broadband access with special emphasis on the MAC (Medium Access Control ) sub-layer. Functional blocks of the various elements of the broadband sat ellite access system are presented.
