Abstract
The aim of this article is to present ab initio calculations of the effect of intermixing at Co/Cu interface on magnetic properties of small Co island s. We find that coating of Co islands with Cu atoms reduce magnetic moments . The spin polarization of Cu atoms near Co islands is revealed. RKKY inter action between Co impurities in Cu layers is calculated. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
