SYNTHESIS AND REACTIVITY IN INORGANIC AND METAL-ORGANIC CHEMISTRY
Transition metal complexes of general composition MLCl2 where (M = Mn, Co,
Ni, and Cu) and MLCl3 where (M' = Cr and Fe) and L is the ligand formed by
the condensation of 2,6-diacetylpyridine and o-phenylenediammine. The compl
exes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar cond
uctance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR, electronic
and EPR spectral studies. Infrared spectra of the ligand and complexes indi
cate that the ligand is hexadentate. All of the complexes are of the high-s
pin type. The geometry of the complexes has been deduced by using electroni
c and EPR spectral studies and found to have octahedral or tetragonal geome
try.
