Abstract
The reaction of [Al(CH3COCHCOCH3)(2)(Opr-i)](2) with glycols (HO-G-OH) in 1 :2 molar ratio in refluxing benzene yields H[(CH3COCHCOCH3)(2)Al(O-G-O)][wh ereG=G(1)= -C(CH3)(2) CH2CH(CH3)- or G(2) =-C(CH3)(2)C(CH3)(2-)]. These der ivatives are soluble in benzene, chloroform and dimethyl sulfoxide and are monomeric in chloroform. Further reaction of H[(CH3COCHCOCH3)(2)Al(O-G-O) w ith alkali metal methoxide (MOCH3) in 1: 1 molar ratio in methanol yields t he bimetallic heterocyclic derivatives of the type [(CH3OH)M] [(CH3COCHCOCH 3)(2)Al(O-G-O)] (where M = Li, Naand K). Also these are soluble in methanol and dimethyl sulfoxide and are monomeric. These complexes show slight ioni c character in 0.001 M methanol Solution. All derivatives have been charact erized by elemental analyses, IR, H-1, C-13 and Al-27 NMR spectral studies. The Al-27 NMR spectra show the presence of octalledrally coordinated alumi nium atoms.
