Abstract
The synthesis of new dicationic bisintercalants containing phenazine or nap hthalene as photosensitizers and 4,4'-bipyridinium as a linker is reported. Irradiation in the presence of 0.5 muM concentrations of the phenazine int ercalants affords cleavage of plasmid DNA (at 22 degreesC, pH 7.0) in good to excellent yields.
