H. Kirschenbaum et C. Reagan, University and urban school partnerships - An analysis of 57 collaborations between a university and a city school district, URBAN EDUC, 36(4), 2001, pp. 479-504
Interviews were conducted with program coordinators of 57 university-school
district collaborative programs. Results were analyzed to better understan
d types of collaboration, school populations served, university divisions i
nvolved, longevity of collaborations, size of program staff and volunteers,
numbers of students served, perceived goal accomplishment, quality of coll
aboration, institutional commitment, and help needed. Collaborations were f
ound to be typically long standing, varied in type, serving large numbers o
f city school students, satisfying to university partners, and perceived as
generally achieving their goals. Programs with high collaboration were jud
ged to be more successful. Recommendations for improving university-school
collaboration and for further research are described.
