Jg. Sandberg et al., DEMONSTRATED EFFICACY OF MODELS OF MARRIAGE AND FAMILY-THERAPY - AN UPDATE OF GURMAN, KNISKERN, AND PINSOFS CHART, The American journal of family therapy, 25(2), 1997, pp. 121-137
Opportunities for third-party reimbursement, marriage and family thera
py (MFT) legislation, and federal funding depend largely on evidence s
upporting the efficacy of specific family therapies in treating specif
ic disorders. The following comprehensive review of literature attempt
s to answer this ''specificity question.'' The article summarizes outc
ome research (1986-95) relating to the efficacy of specific modalities
of MFT in treating certain disorders and updates the chart originally
introduced by Gurman, Kniskern, and Pinsof (1986). Implications for c
linical practice and research are discussed.
