Abstract
beta -FeOOH particles were synthesized from aqueous FeCl3 solutions added w ith different metal ions of Ti(IV), Cr(III), Cu(II) and Ni(II) at varied at omic ratios (metal/Fe) of 0-0.1. Ti(IV) was much more incorporated into the formed particles than Cr(III), Cu(II) and Ni(II). Ti(IV) drastically influ ences the crystallization and particle growth of beta -FeOOH, whereas the o ther metal ions exhibited no marked effect. This result is available for in terpretation of the function of Ti in raising resistance to atmospheric cor rosion of steels in chloride environments. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd.
