Abstract
The non-uniqueness of the symmetric Galerkin boundary element method in its standard form when applied to multiple connected bodies was highlighted in [Perez-Gavilan JJ, Aliabadi MH. Symmetric Galerkin BEM for multi connected bodies, (submitted for publication)]. An alternative method based on a mul ti-region formulation is proposed as a way of overcoming the non-uniqueness problem whilst preserving the symmetry of the system matrix.
