Diffraction of laser radiation by Canter fractals is studied. Dimensio
nal parameters of an object and its diffraction field are compared. Th
e field's dimension is estimated using the correlation dimension of ch
aos. It is shown that the correlation exponent is usable for the evalu
ation of the complexity of optical fields diffracted by the fractals.
An empirical relation among the correlation exponent, fractal level an
d fractal dimension is obtained. A self-similarity in the dependences
of the correlation exponent on the distance of observation is discover
ed for Cantor bars of all levels.
