Ms. Ulgen et al., Cardiac hydatid cysts located in both the left ventricular apex and the intraventricular septum: Case report, HEART VESS, 15(5), 2000, pp. 243-244
Cardiac hydatid cyst is rarely encountered and constitutes 0.5%-2% of all h
ydatid cases. Although left ventricular (LV) location for hydatid cysts has
been frequently reported, the involvement of both the left ventricle and t
he interventricular septum (IVS) has not been previously reported in the li
terature. We present a case of cardiac hydatid cyst with fatal recurrent ce
rebral embolism and the unusual involvement of both LV and IVS demonstrated
by transthoracic echocardiography.
