Abstract
An experimental investigation and a theoretical prediction of the temperatu re dependence of cleavage fracture toughness for a 3Cr-Ni-Mo-V reactor pres sure vessel steel are performed. The K-IC(T) curves are predicted with a pr obabilistic model proposed by the authors earlier on the basis of the resul ts obtained by testing smooth and notched cylindrical specimens in uniaxial tension. The calculated K-IC(T) curves provide an adequate fit to experime ntal data obtained from compact tension specimens. Some problems with descr iption of the scatter in Kic values over the transition temperature range a re discussed. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
