The crystal structure and dielectric properties of the antiferroelectric so
lid solution of (1-x)Pb(Yb1/2Nb1/2)O-3-xPb(Mg1/2W1/2)O-3 (PYN1-xPMWx) (0 le
ss than or equal tox less than or equal to0.30) have been studied. The crys
tal structure is shown to become pseudocubic from the PYN's orthothombic st
ructure with increasing x. In the PYN-rich composition range (0 less than o
r equal tox <0.28), the paraelectric (PE)-antiferroelectric (AFE) phase tra
nsition occurs sharply and is independent of the applied frequency. However
, in the higher PMW concentration (x=0.30), the dielectric constant vs. tem
perature curve becomes gradually broader and the solid solution becomes rel
