Abstract
In this paper, we present improvements on the magnetostrictive delay l ine (MDL) resolution under pulsed operation, defined as the minimum di stance between two, simultaneously excited, acoustic stress points of origin, which result in two discrete and not superimposing voltage out put pulses. In all MDL-based sensing devices presented in the past, su ch resolution was not better than 8 cm. We recently obtained a resolut ion of 1 mm, by using 125 mu m amorphous Fe78Si7B15 wires, tested afte r treatment, in an appropriate geometric arrangement. (C) 1997 Elsevie r Science S.A.
