Intrarenal varix presenting as an enhancing renal mass with calcifications

Extrarenal varicosites of the renal vein are relatively common and are usua lly easily detectable on computerized tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). However, intrarenal components of these varices appear less frequently and may be a source of diagnostic uncertainty, especially when associated with calcifications. We report a case of an intraparenchymal ren al mass, which when imaged in several modalities, was found to be the intra renal portion of a renal vein varix in association with a circum-aortic lef t renal vein.
