Abstract
We have investigated the structure dependence of the electrical and ma gnetic properties of Fe-Al compounds with 28 at.% Al. Local structure changes and hyperfine field parameters have been studied using Mossbau er spectroscopy. The magnetic properties and magnetoresistance exhibit strong dependence on the degree of plastic deformation. Additional al loying, e.g. by chromium, also changes the properties investigated. Th e results show that electrical, magnetic, and mechanical properties ca n be changed by controlled heat and mechanical treatment. (C) 1997 Els evier Science S.A.
