To study the distribution of the sensing field affected by the configuratio
n of the compound electrodes used in the medical EIT system. a finite eleme
nt model with the condition of the coercive equipotential nodes on the boun
dary of an object is established. The distribution of the sensing field aff
ected by the width of the compound electrodes is analysed using the simulat
ion method and an optimum design of the structure size of the compound elec
trode for various excitation strategies is obtained.
