Av. Serral et al., EXTRINSIC COMPRESSION OF THE PULMONARY-AR TERY BY A NON-MICROCYTIC LUNG-CARCINOMA, Revista espanola de cardiologia, 50(3), 1997, pp. 208-210
A patient with a remitting non-microcytic pulmonary carcinoma was subj
ected to Doppler-echocardiography. The detection of a pericardial effu
sion with compression of the pulmonary artery due to an extrinsic mass
indicated that the disease was progressing. The Doppler technique was
used to evaluate the degree of arterial stenosis by determining the p
ressure gradient caused by it (49 mmHg) and to calculate the right ven
tricle pressure (75 mmHg). Tumor infiltration of mediastinal structure
s was posteriorly confirmed by computed tomography.
