Abstract
Four sulfated steroid compounds were isolated from the Kuril population of the starfish Aphelasterias japonica. The structure of a new glycoside, aphe lasteroside D, was elucidated as (24R)-29-O-[2-O-sulfo-beta -D-glucopyranos yl]-24-ethyl-5 alpha -cholestane-3 beta ,5,6 beta ,8 beta ,15 alpha ,29-hex ol sodium salt. Other three substances were identified as the known pycnopo dioside C, 3-O-sulfo-24,25-dihydromarthasterone, and 3-O-sulfothornasterol A, the latter compound being isolated as a tyrammonium salt for the first t ime.
