The complex 2(Me2SO)_GeCl4 in which the hexacoordinate germanium atom is co
ordinated via oxygen atoms with two Me2S=O molecules was studied by IR spec
troscopy. The strong doublet band with maxima at 495 and 506 cm(-1) in the
spectrum of the complex was assigned to stretching vibrations of the Ge-O c
oordination bond. Thermolysis of 2(Me2SO) . GeCl4 yields, along with the co
nsituent molecules, polyoxymethylene, dimethyl disulfide, and trace amounts
of chloromethyl methyl sulfide.
