Until recently, insufficient research has been done on the Soviet occupatio
n in Austria 1945-1955. Whereas the Western Allies are subject of a vast qu
antity of scientific literature, only a few studies focus on their Russian
counterpart. In his article the author gives a brief overview concerning th
e state of research and the situation in Russian archives and-with respect
to recent publications on the Soviet administration in Germany puts togethe
r an agenda for further research on the main issues of Soviet policy in Aus
tria, its institutions, and staff.
