This review presents the progress and current status of the investigation o
n electromechanical deformation and fracture of piezo electric/ferroelectri
c materials. An attempt is made to summarize a few fundamental aspects, whi
ch include electromechanical constitutive relations, piezoelectric micromec
hanics and electric fracture and fatigue, instead of describing all technol
ogical backgrounds, basic physics, experimental findings, and theoretical d
evelopments. A number of open questions and future prospective are presente
d. It is hoped that this review will encourage people to join the explorati
on of this important and interesting field.
