Multichannel ion-molecule reactions of the phenyl cation in mixtures o
f chlorobenzene with acetone and methyl ethyl ketone occur via H+, OH-
, and H2O transfer. In the case of acetone, H2O transfer is the main p
rocess (rate constant 3.1 x 10(-10) cm(3)/s), whereas for methyl ethyl
ketone, C4H7+ ion mainly forms (rate constant 2.6 x 10(-10) cm(3)/s),
It was shown that the C4H7+: ions resulted not only from OH- transfer
, but also from the reactions of dissociation of excited secondary ket
one ions of the [M+1](+) type. The proton transfer reactions of the se
condary ions C6H5OH2+ and C4H7+ with ketone molecules were observed, T
he rate constants of the endothermic proton transfer from toluene mole
cular ion to ketone molecules are affected by the mean kinetic energy
of the primary ions.
