Abstract
The oxygen ordering around Bi in ''Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8'' high-T-c supercondu ctors is difficult to determine from diffraction experiments. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy investigations o f the Bi short range order in such a case are more favourable. The pre sent investigation yielded a shortest average Bi-O bond length of 2.13 Angstrom. This value agrees with the structural model of Bordet et al . and rejects several other models of the Bi-O ordering.
