Abstract
Compared to cylindrical plunge grinding processes the conditions of contact in cylindrical traverse grinding processes are much more complex, so that it is hardly possible to derive an analytical stability criterion. Because of this, a numerical simulation tool has been developed, to research the dy namic behaviour in the time domain and to determine stable machining parame ters of cylindrical traverse grinding processes. The simulation tool is bas ed on a process model, including the dynamic compliance of the machine tool , the grinding normal forces, the grinding wheel wear and the surface of wo rkpiece and grinding wheel. Special attention was paid to the conditions of contact, regarding the development of step wear of the grinding tool.
