A new numerical approach to the solution of the steady one-dimensional nozz
le flow has been developed. The main advantages of the new method consist i
n avoiding the discontinuity, and the consequent instability, present in th
e classical approach and in the simple criterion to find the transonic poin
t. The former aspect is very important for flows with chemical reactions, w
here the transonic point does not coincide with the minimum of the nozzle s
ection. Comparisons between the new and the classical method put in evidenc
e the better performances of the new approach mainly in the solution of rea
cting flows. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
