Abstract
The kinetics of oxidation of pyridine to pyridine-I-oxide by peroxomonosulp huric acid (PMSA) have been investigate in the pH range 3.5 - 14. The react ion shows first order dependence each on [PMSA] and [pyridine]. The observe d pH rate profile has been rationalised invoking HSO5- SO52- and the unprot onated form of pyridine as the reactive species and their reactivities have been estimated. A probable mechanism has been proposed for the reaction.
