H. Sekiguchi et Y. Saita, Effect of alumina particles on sonolysis degradation of chlorobenzene in aqueous solution, J CHEM EN J, 34(8), 2001, pp. 1045-1048
Sonolysis is one of the techniques to destroy various organic contaminants
in dilute aqueous solutions. The purpose of this study was to examine the e
ffect of alumina particles on the enhancement of sonolysis. Chlorobenzene w
as chosen as the model organic compound and batch experiments were carried
out with 20 kHz ultrasound source. The results showed the acceleration of t
he decomposition rate was observed and the rate was proportional to the sur
face area increased by the introduction of the particles. The possible mech
anisms for the enhancement were discussed including the increase in the cav
itation bubbles which were produced by sonication and the decomposition too
k place in.
