Abstract
We consider the popular spatial smoothing technique in adaptive arrays and show that the simple suboptimal rule for choosing the subarray size exists in a practically important situation of two coherent equipower closely spac ed sources. This rule does not require any a priori information about the s ignal source parameters. Results of extensive computer simulations are incl uded to support our analysis.
