A synthesis method is proposed in which functions describing the patterns o
f the array elements and a specified pattern are transformed into even func
tions. Then, the Fourier spectra of these functions are calculated using th
e cosine Fourier transform. The amplitude-phase distribution over the array
elements is determined by solving a system of linear equations. It is show
n that the amount of calculations in this method can be reduced (in compari
son to that required in the approximation synthesis methods) without any no
ticeable changes in the approximation to the specified pattern. This is acc
omplished by restricting the number of Fourier harmonics involved in the sy
nthesis.
