Abstract
The essential oils obtained from fruits of three Angelica L. species growin g in France were analyzed by, GC/MS. The dominant component in the fruit oi ls of Angelica archangelica L. and A. heterocarpa Lloyd was beta -phellandr ene (64.9-76.0% and 39.0%, respectively), while the major component of A. s ylvestris var. vulgaris Ave-Lallemant was limonene (56.1%). One result of t his study, was that numerous volatile components found have never before be en described as constituents of the three Angelico species examined. The ch emical analyses present numerous systematic markers for each species and br ing together Angelica archangelica and A. heterocarpa. This study has led t o the distinction of two chemotypes and one ecotype of Angelico archangelic a subsp.sativa.
