Abstract
Analyzing data from fifty-six four-year colleges, this investigation employ ed a cross-sectional design with statistical controls for confounding influ ences to estimate the net impact of college on five standardized, objective measures of student learning: English, mathematics, science, social studie s, and a composite of all four tests. Women in the sample demonstrated sign ificantly smaller net freshman-senior differences across all five measures.
