The stress provided by the forging press for manufacturing closed die forgi
ngs (forging stress) is evaluated through dimensional analysis. Five dimens
ionless groups, from the process variables, are proposed in order to simpli
fy, this forging stress determination. These groups are experimentally rela
ted. This relation is compared with the forging stresses of four industrial
pieces with different shapes and alloys, reported in the literature. The r
esults show that this methodology is useful for predicting the actual forgi
ng stress necessary in industrial closed die forgings.
