The scalar wave equation has many classes of solutions corresponding to pro
gressing waves propagating without dispersion in the entire space for -infi
nity < t < infinity and conveying an infinite energy. Two well known exampl
es are the conventional plane waves and the focus wave modes. We investigat
e here a new class of nondispersive solutions that we name 'arrow wave mode
s' and we are interested in arrow beams built up by superposition of these
basic modes and conveying a finite energy so that they can be used to const
ruct physical signals.
