Periodic patterns of mixed-mode oscillations with successive numbers of sma
ll-amplitude oscillations followed by one large-amplitude oscillation (peri
od-adding phenomenon) have been observed in the asymptotic regime of the Be
lousov-Zhabotinsky reaction (bromate-malonic acid-ferroin) in a CSTR (conti
nuously stirred tank reactor) at decreasing residence times. Such period ad
ding has been predicted by a simple model proposed recently for a qualitati
ve description of asymptotic and transient oscillations observed in the BZ
system. Patterns qualitatively corresponding to the experimental ones are o
btained in this model.
