Abstract
We have designed a Web site intended to inform the general public about exi sting nuclear technologies based on the measurement of radioisotopes in the human body. The presentation is focused on the concept of radioisotope mea surements for determination of body composition (bone, muscle, water, fat), and the risks, benefits, and clinical applications of these techniques. Pr ocedures covered are K-40 whole body counting, delayed-gamma neutron activa tion, prompt-gamma neutron activation, and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry . The information presented is tailored for the nonscientific public, in or der to promote familiarity with and understanding of the basic concepts of radioisotope measurements in the human body. Further development of the sit e will include greater scientific detail, suitable for student instruction or for continuing education requirements of various certification programs.
