Batch contact ion exchange experiments were carried out to check the perfor
mance of a highly cross-linked (30%) macroporous styrene-divinylbenzene cat
ion exchange resin with 0.406 ml/g pore volume and 110 Angstrom pore diamet
er. The surface area of the resin was 150 m(2)/g. The ion exchange of the C
s-137 radioisotope was determined by taking liquid aliquotes at various tim
e intervals from solutions over various cationic forms of the resins. The r
esults of kinetics and distribution coefficients for the uptake of Cs-137 r
adioisotope were evident in all cationic forms of the resin. The best resul
ts of uptake were obtained from the Li+-form of the resin. All the experime
nts were carried out with deionized water at room temperature.
