Abstract
The world, the flesh, and the devil constituted a proverbial pattern in med ieval spirituality to designate the major obstacles to human salvation. At least seventeen occurrences of the triad in at least six different works of More show it to have been familiar to his readers. This article constructs a bridge between his spiritual universe and those of medieval as well as T udor and later authors.
