Ph. Diamond et al., Secondary instability in drift wave turbulence as a mechanism for zonal flow and avalanche formation, NUCL FUSION, 41(8), 2001, pp. 1067-1080
The article reports oil recent developments, in the theory of secondary ins
tability in drift ion temperature gradient turbulence. Specifically, the ar
ticle explores secondary instability as a mechanism for zonal flow generati
on, transport barrier dynamics and avalanche formation. These in turn are r
elated to the space time statistics of the drift wave induced flux, the sca
ling of transport with collisionality and beta, and the spatio-temporal evo
lution of transport barriers.
