Megapalla, gen. nov. is described to include M. curvata, sp. nov. from Sri
Lanka and M. undulata, sp. nov. from Laos. The genus is considered monophyl
etic based on external characters as well as on characters of the peculiar
male genitalia. These show an obvious articulation of the dorsal gonocoxal
process with the gonocoxite. Megapalla is compared with Schoutedenomyia Kro
ber, 1936 which is a genus containing many rarely collected Afrotropical an
d Oriental species. Phycus argentiventris Brunetti, 1920 is transferred to
Schoutedenomyia Krober, 1936, comb. nov.
