The binary system Li2CO3-BaCO3 was studied by means of heating-cooling curv
es, differential thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TG), X-ray phase
analysis and infrared spectroscopy. There is an eutectic at 609 (+/-4) deg
reesC and about 55 mol% Li2CO3. It was shown that lithium carbonate does no
t form substitutional solid solutions with barium carbonate, however, the p
ossible formation of dilute interstitial solid solutions is suggested. (C)
