Abstract
X-ray fluorescence transitions of the type 5 d-->4p have been measured for the 5 d compounds Ta, TaC, and Ta2O5. The measured Ta N-3 x-ray emission sp ectra are compared with band-structure calculations and it is concluded tha t the soft-x-ray transitions can be used to study occupied 5d electronic st ates in materials with 5d elements.
