The manuscript reading ingere in Exodus 33a has been emended in various way
s. Since a simplex gere occurs both in Exodus and other Old English texts,
it is suggested that ingere represents this very form with the intensifying
prefix in-. The adverb gere can be justified within the grammatical system
of Old English. Therefore the manuscript reading ingere, which makes good
sense in its context, is not in need of an emendation.
