The structure of the [Mg(H2O)(6)](ClO4)(2) . 2(CH2)(6)N-4 . 2H(2)O complex
was determined by X-ray crystallography. The crystals are triclinic, a = 8.
227(3) Angstrom, b = 9.220(6) Angstrom, c = 10.781(5) Angstrom, alpha = 94.
28(4)degrees, beta = 104.33(3)degrees, gamma = 114.15(4)degrees, V = 708.5(
7) Angstrom (3), Z = 1, space group P (1) over bar, R = 0.049 for 1979 refl
ections with I > 2 sigma (I). The crystals consist of complex cations [Mg(H
2O)(6)](2+), ClO4- anions, and solvate hexamethylenetetramine and water mol
ecules linked by an array of hydrogen bonds into a network. In the octahedr
al complex cation, average Mg-O lengths are 2.062(2) Angstrom; the average
N-C bond lengths in the hexamethylenetetramine are equal to 1.470(4) Angstr
om. The perchlorato ion is disordered: the average Cl-O bond length is 1.42
9(6) and 1.430(6) Angstrom for two orientations of this anion, respectively
