Palladium 2-methylthio-8-quinolinethiolate was synthesized as single crysta
ls. The formula Pd-3[C9H5(SCH2)NS](3) was established by X-ray crystallogra
phy. The crystal structure is composed of neutral trinuclear complexes with
the zigzag six-membered heterocycle (3Pd + 3S) in the core. Three crystall
ographically nonequivalent palladium atoms are in distorted cis square (2S
+ N + C) coordination environments. Each of the three palladium atoms close
s two five-membered chelate rings (S,N and C,N rings) with the same ligand.
Chelate formation is accompanied by substitution of a palladium atom for a
hydrogen atom of the methyl group (C,N ring). The tridentate coordination
mode (S,N,C) of 2-methylthio-8-quinolinethiol with the S(thiol) bridge is o
bserved for the first time.
