T. Jesionowski et al., Effects of quaternary ammonium chlorides on the surface properties of precipitated silicas, TENSIDE SUR, 38(3), 2001, pp. 158-163
In these studies, highly dispersed silicas were obtained. Studies on the su
rface modification of hydrated silicas using cationic surfactants are descr
ibed. The best modifiers were judged to be those that induced a change in t
he silica surface from hydrophilic to hydrophobic. Physicochemical studies
on the morphology and microstructure of the silicas obtained were carried o
ut using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Zeta potential, polydisper
sity, particle size and the tendency to form primary and secondary agglomer
ate structures were also determined.
