Abstract
A new series of chromophores is presented where a positively charged N -alkylpyridinium acceptor and a negatively charged dicyanomethanide do nor are spaced by a thiophene-based bridging unit; the unique combinat ion of these fragments results in dramatically enhanced first molecula r hyperpolarisabilities (mu beta as high as 13450 x 10(-48) esu).
